Caroline Finlay is an experienced jewellery teacher who spent 20 years as a Lecturer in Jewellery Design & Making before setting up her full-time business as a designer-maker and private teacher 10 years ago.
She works from her studio in a renovated 1930's fire station in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, UK which is large enough to allow her to teach jewellery making classes to small groups.
Class numbers are small which gives 4 to 6 students plenty of one to one tuition time and space to work.
Classes will be offered on a first come basis and will run with a minimum of 3 learners.
Classes planned this year are Introduction to Jewellery Making focussing on texturing and forming techniques and Introduction to Enamelling and Enamelling and Jewellery Making 3 Day workshop and Contemporary Enamelled Jewellery 3 day workshop.
Other techniques such as rub-over stone setting and chain making may be included and added to the calendar later.
Dunfermline is located on the east of Scotland in the central belt approximately 20 miles from Edinburgh and 40 from Glasgow. It has a regular bus and rail service.
Studio 8 is on the first floor with lift access. Learners with specific needs will be supported as well as possible.

Thank you for three fantastic, interesting and inspiring days in your studio - so much to learn! BR - July 2023
I took part in a fantastic course. You showed us new techniques as well as more well known and in a very engaged and careful way. You are a skilled designer, teacher and craftsman, you advise us in the best possible way. I look forward to sharing my experience with my friends in Oslo. UR July 2023
Caroline is an inspiring and patient teacher and I had a wonderful weekend in her studio learning enamelling techniques. There was plenty of time for individual help, and I was able to try several different effects. I can’t recommend her workshops enough! FC - June 2023
I genuinely loved everything about the class. I got to practice everything I wanted to try. There was a really good balance between teaching and practicing and 5 students felt like a good number. It was nice to have other people to talk to and share the experience with but not so many it felt crowded or that you couldn't spend time with each of us. I would definitely recommend your classes. Just wanted to say thank you very much for the jewellery course last weekend - it was everything I hoped it would be and more. It felt a lot more like being shown how to make something beautiful in the company of friends, rather than a formally rigid course. There was a definite structure there, but there was also the flexibility and fluidity to allow the teaching to move in the direction of what the students were wanting to do, and where they demonstrated their strengths. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will (hopefully) be back for other courses in the future. GR - May 2023
I thought the pace of the class was good and liked having the opportunity to practice out some options on the copper before starting on the silver. Thanks again for running a great class - I’m really pleased with what I made! MS - May 2023
Thank you so much for a great course, I really enjoyed it and am definitely going to acquire some bits of equipment and carry on. Hopefully you’ll see me back again next year sometime. LW - May 2023
